Utopia Ontario is Andrew Downing's new quartet featuring Kevin Turcotte (trumpet), Maggie Keogh (voice) and Harley Card (guitar) joining Andrew (double bass). The name comes from a small town about an hour North of Toronto nestled on the Nottawasaga River, and the music takes you deep in the woods where peace and quiet reign, melancholy mixes with nature, and nostalgia walks amongst the trees. The repertoire is a mix of Andrew's original songs and collaborations between Andrew and Maggie for which Andrew wrote music to Maggie's haunting lyrics. In the mix you might also find interpretations of songs by John Southworth, Rebecca Campbell and Mary Margaret O'Hara. Utopia, Ontario released their first record, which also features Ian McGimpsey on pedal steel, in November of 2024 to critical acclaim.
