Jazz at Lincoln Center (JALC) is a leading performing arts organization based in New York City at Frederick P. Rose Hall. Led by Chairman Clarence Otis, Managing and Artistic Director Wynton Marsalis, and Executive Director Greg Scholl, JALC presents thousands of concerts, educational events, and broadcasts each year. Its mission is to entertain, enrich, and expand a global community for jazz.

Since 1988, the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra (JLCO) has served as JALC’s resident ensemble. Comprised of 15 top soloists and ensemble players, JLCO tours globally and performs a vast repertoire, from historic works by Ellington, Basie, and Mingus to original compositions by its own members. The orchestra collaborates regularly with major symphonies and appears in venues ranging from concert halls and clubs to schools and public parks.

Education is a cornerstone of JALC’s mission. Its programs reach over 110,000 people annually and include Jazz for Young People, the Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Competition, and various workshops and residencies.

Wynton Marsalis, a Pulitzer Prize and nine-time GRAMMY-winning trumpeter and composer, is a global ambassador for jazz. Born in New Orleans, Marsalis studied at Juilliard before joining Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers. He has released over 100 recordings and composed hundreds of works across styles, including symphonies, ballets, and concertos. His oratorios All Rise, Swing Symphony, and The Jungle have been performed by orchestras around the world.

Marsalis is also a renowned educator and author. He founded the jazz program at Juilliard and developed many of JALC’s education initiatives. His awards include the National Medal of Arts, National Humanities Medal, and the Key to New York City. His life’s work celebrates creativity, cooperation, and resilience through the values of jazz.
